I was in Boston recently, and at the MFA I came across this fantastic pair of early Renaissance underwear! From Martyrdom of Saint Hippolytus, last quarter of the 15th Century, by an unknown Flemish artist.

I don’t think you can assume “underwear” – simply a cloth swaddled is also valid, especially for that period
Valid point! But as a designer and historian, you’re often looking for images of underwear in periods where you not only don’t have any real garments left, but also, most pictures of people are wearing clothes over their underwear – so its nice to see what looks like a real cut and sewn garment (with a drawstring!) Plus, they look sort of like those 2xist brand.
