Also from the collection at Brede Værk (just north of Copenhagen) – a SIDE-FOLDING collapsible top hat! Has anybody seen one of these before? I’d love to know of others if you know of any collections that has one.

I am currently writing my MA dissertation on men’s collapsible hats, there are several examples in collections in the UK (V&A, Bath, and Snowhill Wade), and a patent taken out in 1849 for a side folding hat that had a frame (all of the ones I have seen so far in the UK are simply made of one piece of felt).
